“I fear nothing, I hope for nothing, I am free”
~ Poet and novelist Nikos Kazantzakis
This is one of those mysterious statements they probably did not teach you at school.
How can I hope for nothing? Many people might even believe it's impossible to live this way.
How can I fear nothing? Your parents probably did not want you to feel you should fear nothing. In fact fear became a way of expressing their love for you.
And I am free… In our institutionalized lives there are many forces that don’t want us to feel free at all. From banks to the political system in general, and even the great religions of the world want you to feel freedom is somewhere in the future.
And what about advertising, that ubiquitous force based on making people feel they are not enough, ever, no matter what they add to themselves.
Are we not all indentured slaves in a strange way. Gore Vidal said “As societies grow decadent, the language grows decadent, too. Words are used to disguise, not to illuminate, action: you liberate a city by destroying it. Words are to confuse, so that at election time people will solemnly vote against their own interests.”
DIVE DEEPER
So how do we dive deeper into the spirit of these words … “I fear nothing, I hope for nothing, I am free”
Well, I would offer the following: Any kind of expectation creates a problem. We should accept, but not expect. Whatever comes, accept it. Whatever goes, accept it. The immediate benefit is that your mind is always peaceful. Everyone needs a life compass so you can make sure you are diving into and not away from the truth .
When you start diving deeper into the mystery of life, the life that is within you and not the life ”out there” your mind becomes more harmonized…and a harmonized mind produces harmony in this world of seeming discord.
