ignoring Distractions
Our lives are constantly bombarded with distractions and attractions. What is the difference between the two?
- Distractions makes us forfeit deadlines, procrastinate, waste energy and valuable time.
- Attractions, oh well, those are quite different. There are emotional connections involved when it comes to attractions, and therefore can easily deter us from achieving our goals because guess what? We like them, it feels good. They are attracting to us.
Learning how to curb the distractions and attractions is key when setting personal goals.
Staying Focused
Having a Personal Coach helps you to stay focused and accountable to yourself as well. When you hire a Coach, first make sure their style of Coaching is a fit for your personality.
- Some Coaches are tough and in your face
- Others are gentle and nurturing
- Others start out very gentle, but along the way they become more engaging and challenge any possible "Patterns of Self-Sabotage" to help you achieve what you hired them to help you achieve in the first place.
Many times, we are unaware of these patterns become they are part of our daily routines. Human beings are creatures of habit. Habits are formed to structure our daily lives but some of those habits are detrimental to our growth as a person, as a lover, as a professional, as a spouse.
Bad habits can affect every aspect of our lives. Having a Personal Coach helps you to unravel that which has become habitual for you that you may not be aware how much it is hindering your success in life. These habits can become a self-sabotaging pattern.
A recognizable pattern of self-sabotage is "busyness". We confuse having a full agenda daily with progress and most of the time, it's just a combination of distractions and attractions with half-done goals. Imagine an octopus on skates, lots of movement but no progress. Remember, busyness is not necessarily progress.
How to Focus
Two key ingredients of Focus are:
- Passion - I love the webster's dictionary definition of it; a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something. Like Rod Steward says in his song "we need passion". And that my friend is so true. Passion is a strong emotion that can fuel your soul with the energy needed to make the changes necessary to meet your goals.
- Concentration - it is defined as: the action or power of focusing one's attention or mental effort. Synonyms: close attention, attentiveness, application, single-mindedness. In other words, the time you must dedicate without distraction to that goal you want to achieve. Check out the video link for the 3rd one.

Reward yourself
You may say "but Coach, some of these distractions and attractions are fun for me." And I hear you, you don't have to deny yourself forever, just while you need to maximize your time to achieve your goals.
So what I suggest is that you let those distractions and attractions become part of the reward you give yourself for having achieved your goals. Celebrate your achievements.
Know when you need help
If you don't confront certain things, then nothing changes. Changes are the results of being tired of feeling sick and tired. You must get to that place where you say "enough is enough; I want more out of life, I deserve better and I will do it."
You may need a little push from a Coach and that is wise. Only the strong know when to ask for help. Getting the help you need makes you smart, not weak.
So get started on the changes you want to see in your life. In my Coaching Practice (for the last 15 years) I specialize in: Life, Career, Relationship, Mentoring, Financial and Spiritual Coaching. My fees are reasonable and I will work with you so don't ever let fear of lack of money stop you from getting the help you need. I also do group rates for 10 or more in the South Florida area.
