When you're trying to boost your self-esteem, you want to associate with people who can make you feel good about yourself.
Try and surround yourself with positive, active, pleasant people who encourage you to feel good about yourself. On the flip side try and reduce contact with those who shower scorn on you or are generally negative. As you develop a support structure that values you for who you are, you'll feel better about being you and much, much happier.
