We all know that breathing deeply and slowly can help us relax and de-stress, but sometimes a deep breath--or a few--just isn't enough. This simple trick can help melt away your stress!

Close your eyes gently and start by noticing your breath; is it shallow, deep, fast, slow? Don't try and change your breathing, just follow the inhale and exhale.

After two or three breaths take a mental scan of your body. Is there tension or pain? Focus on that spot. DON'T TRY AND MAKE THE TENSION OR PAIN GO AWAY! Just be aware of it and feel it.

When the tension or pain moves or changes, PAY ATTENTION! Focus on what comes in its place; warmth, relaxation, cool? Whatever sensation moves in, feel it just as keenly as you felt your tension.

Feel the warmth or relaxation (or whatever came in place of the tension) for a few breaths. Then move your awareness back to your breath. Take two or three more breaths, noticing if your breathing has changed.

Open your eyes and go about your day!

This process shouldn't take more than 5 minutes. If your tension or pain doesn't completely go away, don't worry! The more you practice this trick, the easier and faster it will become!
