About me

I provide in-person sessions throughout Denver and surrounding regions including Littleton, Centennial, Lone Tree, Aurora, and Greenwood Village. If you live outside of this area I offer convenient online coaching (via Zoom) and phone sessions nationally. My approach is two-pronged, providing both emotional support, and concrete, evidence-based success strategies for students and their parents.

My work is deeply rooted in the belief that ADHD is not a "disability," but rather I reframe it as a positive attribute with its own blend of challenges (learning opportunities) and wonderful upsides. I help parents to understand their child's ADHD and improve communication, behavior, and academics.

Some key differences of my program are: I start with my client's strengths, I provide accountability and support between sessions, I tirelessly advocate with schools, teachers, and other important individuals involved in the child's life. I firmly believe that every person with ADHD has extraordinary potential, and my aim is to help them reach it.

Coaching with me

RESULTS & GOALS
LEVERAGING YOUR ASSETS

Essentially, we help you or your child by making the most of your abilities, talents, interests, and leveraging everything you have to offer. Through targeted interventions and the strategic application of time-tested systems and routines my sincere hope is to help you/your family will find balance and live a happier life.

I help my clients lean into challenges and see them as an opportunity for growth. The PWR system helps those struggling with ADHD to build on their strengths so they can experience success early on in the program. When someone is feeling accomplished, they’re much more likely to be able to apply themselves to things they find difficult.
HOW I LIKE TO COACH
CORE APPROACH

In working with you or your child, I provide:

* A holistic, client-centered approach
* Training for parents of children with ADHD
* A personalized approach based on my clients’ strengths, assets, abilities and interests
* Effective time management and organizational skills and systems
* Helpful study skills and academic improvement strategies
* Innovative ways of harnessing creative potential
* Practical mindfulness and present-focused awareness exercises
* Behavioral strategies that are positive and goal oriented

EVIDENCE & THEORETICAL GROUNDING

I use a targeted and systematic approach in my work with individuals and families. I combine proven coaching techniques with theoretical models of learning and evidence-based approaches from other disciplines such as positive psychology, social learning theory, cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness and reward-based behavioral modification methods.

Yes, that all sounds like a mouthful—but it works.

What it comes down to is this: through a strategic application of these theories and techniques, I help children and families build routines, structures and systems to assist in habituating themselves to helpful behaviors. They practice these skills within a safe and supportive environment (i.e. with me, within the context of coaching), and then over time, once they begin to see the benefits of these changes for themselves, they gradually expand their efforts out into other more challenging settings (school, friends, family, etc.).

At the same time they build confidence and self-esteem by learning how their minds work and using them in creative, innovative and successful ways. When people become mindful about their actions and take personal responsibility for their choices, it empowers them to shift away from the victim mentality and into the resilient mindset of successful people. They learn to stop and think about their choices before acting and to not give in to their emotional states. They learn how acting based on their values rather than their moods brings a sense of personal power into any situation.

Is your teenager hard to handle? Are they acting out in self-destructive ways or needing support socially? Is it hard to deal with their mood swings and the ways they demand their space?

Raising a teenager is difficult for any parent, but adding ADHD into the mix can be all the makings of a perfect storm. In my experience, teenagers are seeking guidance and support, but they just don’t know how to ask or want to be seen as “needing help.” I work from a positive framework and support them in ways that counteract that resistance. I also try to encourage them to make choices that lead them closer to their goals and pause long enough to think through the consequences of their actions. Likewise, I help teens understand the importance of communicating their needs and improving any academic/behavioral/social concerns that parents may have.

PROFESSIONAL AND LIFE EXPERIENCE
My Story - From Struggle to Success

I know all too well the negative impressions and stigma that society places on those with ADHD. Having dealt with them all my life, I know it can be a highly stressful and challenging experience for both parents and children.

I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 7. Luckily my parents were psychologists and so I got early care, going through the gauntlet of traditional ADHD treatments. However, I still had numerous academic issues, was labeled as "learning-disabled," and experienced frequent conflict at home and school because of my behavioral issues.

As a teenager I went from delinquency and risk-taking behaviors to nearly being expelled from school. I’ve gone through many trials and tribulations on my path through life, but I also gradually realized how often I did certain things that got in the way of my success and productivity. Eventually I hit on a key insight — I did have what it took to succeed, and with the right kind of dedication, support, structures and training I could learn to harness those capacities and maximize my potential.

With persistence and diligence (not to mention numerous failed attempts along the way), I cracked the code for ADHD-based achievement. Eventually, I went on to complete two bachelor degrees and graduated from Columbia University with my Masters in Social Work. I believe that the skills I’ve learned along the way can help others have an easier time coping with the social stigma and life barriers that accompany an ADHD diagnosis.
