About me

I have been in the social work field for 20 years. I have worked in several different areas including child protective services, adults with mental health issues in supervised living environments and those who live independently, therapy for women who experienced domestic violence and Head Start Program in Newark, NJ.

I also have a background in library service since the age of 16. I worked at Rutgers Law Library in Newark for 17 years. That is where I discovered my love of helping people. I enjoy researching information and sharing what I have found. What I enjoy the most is helping individuals to find what they need to get to where they want to be in life.

Recently I was contacted on Facebook by a former client that I had when I worked for child protective services. I had her case back in 2009. I left the job in 2012. She remembered me from that long ago and that she appreciated my help. She told me that I motivated her and that it meant so much, that she was able to make the necessary changes in her life to leave an abusive relationship and provide a safe and stable life for her children.

Coaching with me

RESULTS & GOALS
I help my clients see the best in themselves and achieve their goals. Whether it involves completing their education or looking for employment I help motivate my clients to appreciate what they have already achieved and set attainable goals to continue to succeed in this journey called life. I have helped a client to complete their high school education on time after they had to repeat a grade. I have also motivated client from being unemployed and collecting benefits to going to school and finding employment.
HOW I LIKE TO COACH
I like to raise a client's emotional state from feeling overwhelmed, lost, a failure, alone or depressed to seeing the value of their life and what gifts they have in order to elevate them to a more positive frame of thinking about themselves. So many people in this world have goals and dreams that they think are unattainable. I believe with the right guidance and support, anything can be achieved by anyone. "Nothing is impossible, the word itself says: I'm possible!" - Audrey Hepburn

PROFESSIONAL AND LIFE EXPERIENCE
Professional: As the oldest child of a teen aged single mother, my life was not easy. I had to struggle to get my college education. I was lucky enough to be hired full-time in 1995 so that I could complete my college degree and then pursue my Masters. I have worked at a Law school library for 17 years and volunteered at my local public library for a year. I have worked in the field of social work for 20 years I have worked with the Head Start Program in the Special Needs Department. I have worked with a community-based organization for domestic violence providing individual therapy to women. I have worked at the Department of Child Protection & Permanency in New Jersey as a case manager providing services to children and families. I have worked at two agencies that provides services to adults with mental health issues. One was for individuals in supervised group homes and apartments, while the other was with individuals who lived independently or with family. I have also worked as a substitute teacher in several cities in New Jersey. I am also certified to teach grades Pre-K to 12.

Personal Life: As a child I was molested and never met my biological father. As an adult I experienced emotional, psychological and sexual assault from the men I dated and knew casually. Although I am multiracial, I mostly identify myself as African American. I have experienced bullying from other African American college educated women whom I was associated with through a sorority. I know what it feels like to struggle financially and lack self-confidence. I have been unemployed and on welfare before. I have lost my lost my source of a secure income, home and car in the past. I have grieved the passing of loved ones who suffered from a terminal illness. Having these experiences led me to pursue social work and molded me into the woman I am today. I know what pain and sorrow is, but I also know that staying in darkness is no way to live. But when you are finally able to see the light, the joy of your triumphs will bring you so much happiness that those painful experiences will be just a distant memory in your journey. We were all born to serve a purpose and be happy, let me help you get there.
