About me

I trained as an ADHD coach at the ADD Coach Academy. I'm also trained to use Integrated Listening Systems (iLs) with my clients. It's my most popular offering because it is a multi-sensory program for improving brain function that's fun and easily customized for all ages and skill levels. Neuro-developmental disorders, like ADHD, ASD, SPD, LD, and others, affect the whole family, so I like to work with all family members, including parents, whenever possible. When using iLs, I have 3 units, so parents can use the Calming or Performance Optimization Program while I work with their child/children using the Sensory-Motor, Attention & Concentration, or Reading & Auditory Processing Programs. Everyone takes an assessment to get the right program fit. I also combine programs based on assessment results to create a truly customized plan. Sometimes the iLs program works so well that we don't even need to do much coaching.

Diagnosed with ADD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and Dyscalculia when I was in college, I went from being on academic probation to graduating with distinction after getting the help and support I needed. I know first hand how important it is to get the right support to be successful! Most people ask me how I got into this field and more specifically using iLs. I graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a minor in Linguistics. That education gave me a strong base of knowledge about the brain and what we know about how it works. I have had several jobs since graduating, but my most recent job was as a caseworker for a program that provides housing and case management for those in eastern Iowa challenged by disabilities and homelessness.

After working with one of my clients for several months, it dawned on me that she was probably on the autism spectrum. I took her to a specialist who diagnosed her with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I then looked to find her appropriate treatment and resources, but I could find nothing in the area for an adult with ASD. Determined to find her the help she needed, I turned to the internet to continue my search. That's when I learned about Integrated Listening Systems. I dismissed it at first because it sounded too good to be true. It treated ASD, ADHD, SPD, LD, Depression, etc. How could one treatment do all that? I eventually returned to investigate the iLs method further because I could not find anything other treatment for my client to pursue.

I discovered that Dr. Ned Hallowell, a nationally known psychiatrist specializing in ADHD, endorsed it, so I concluded that it must work. I have great respect for Dr. Hallowell's treatment advice regarding ADHD and have found it very useful in my life living with ADHD myself. I tried to find an iLs practitioner in the area, but they all were at least a 2-hour drive. That's when I decided to become an iLs practitioner and ADHD life coach. I have now witnessed the difference this can make in a person's life. For some, the big life changes happen quickly, and for others, it takes time to see even small life changes. It just depends on their unique brain wiring, and how willing they are to make additional life changes to maximize the therapeutic effect. I'm here to cheer them onward no matter how small the change!

While a student at Iowa State University, I created the Campus Network for Learning Disabled Students. I realized then how important it was for those with atypical brain wiring to get the support and resources they needed to succeed. Ours is a hidden disability that others often attribute to character flaws. It is easy to fall into that thinking ourselves. I know that I did. I could never understand why I couldn't get it together and keep it together. It did a lot of damage to my self-esteem and I became suicidal in high school. I finally felt empowered once I had the diagnosis of Attention Deficit Disorder and various learning disabilities. I finally had an explanation for my continual frustration and I worked hard to connect with resources that could help me succeed. I used meditation, medication, and accommodation, among many other tools to help me achieve my goals. My wish is that everyone could experience that feeling of empowerment and see their life turn around as I did. I've hit many rough patches since college, but I have that experience in my back pocket now. I know that I can overcome whatever is getting in my way if I recruit the right support and resources. I continue to learn how to set myself up for success. I'm also learning to do that for my son and my husband as well. It's what we all need. I'd love to discuss how I can help you do that for yourself and your family too.
