About me
As the owner of The Harp Family Institute, a research-based consulting firm that coaches couples where one or both of the partners is an entrepreneur, I have spent the past decade studying and researching entrepreneurship and marriage, and their reciprocal impact on one other.
Recently, I expanded my practice to include couples who are not small business owners. Although I have used entrepreneurs as my template, I realize that so many of the best practices I uncovered in my research could benefit couples within our global population.
My research has been featured in Inc. Magazine, Entrepreneur, The Wall Street Journal, and Forbes.
Coaching with me
RESULTS & GOALS
By the time my clients are ready to "graduate" from the Harp Family Institute, they leave with a clear vision of the life they are meant to lead and a step by step guide on how to achieve their dreams. Couples come to me with a variety of issues and learn how to communicate in a way that makes it not only possible to listen to one another, but also how to increase their intimacy through these newfound skills.
HOW I LIKE TO COACH
I have created a 6 step program based on the best practices of the most satisfied entrepreneurial couples.
1. Creating a personal vision statement
2. Re-connecting
3. Sharing more information about your lives
4. Creating a shared vision for your future
5. Deeply appreciating each other's contributions
6. Establishing communication protocols
As my clients go through these steps, they learn how to communicate more effectively. They also develop and uncover life goals and figure out how to achieve them. During our sessions, we focus both on the topics above, as well as whatever the individual or couple wants to discuss. Instead of always offering advice, I rely heavily on my depth of knowledge as well as my own personal experiences to help my clients determine how to progress in the best way for them as an individual and as a couple.

PROFESSIONAL AND LIFE EXPERIENCE
Immediately after graduating from the University of Michigan, (B.A. Psychology) Trisha became the Co-Founder of On My Own of Michigan, a not-for-profit organization providing “real life†living skills and activities for young adults with developmental disabilities. It was during the creation of this program that she discovered the joys and frustrations of “entrepreneurshipâ€. Following a successful tenure, Trisha’s leadership skills were coveted and recruited by both private and governmental agencies. Spending several years developing programs and strategic plans, Trisha’s interest and passion for entrepreneurship piqued.
Her ultimate access to the field increased steadily after marrying a serial entrepreneur. Since their union, Trisha has served as a founding team member of multiple enterprises as well as an active participant in the EO spousal component.
In 2007, Trisha earned an M.S. in Human Development and Family Science from the Ohio State University where the focus of her Master’s thesis was on “Spousal Satisfaction in Entrepreneurial Couples.†Since that time, many professionals have encouraged her to broaden her research and publish her findings on the effect that entrepreneurship has on relationships and conversely, the impact that relationships have on business ventures. Today, Trisha envisions the essential outcome of this comprehensive, research-based program (Harp Family Institute) as a template to identify and provide best practices for business owners and their spouses/partners worldwide. Trisha is also a certified professional coach with a focused practice on entrepreneurial couples.
