At 35 I found myself obese, struggling with several nagging health conditions, and just generally dissatisfied with the role model I was presenting to my two young daughters. I began to systematically, slowly focus on my eating, exercise and other lifestyle-related habits, and over the course of the next few years I lost 80 pounds and established a balanced and sustainable set of health-promoting lifestyle habits.
I studied for and received certifications in both personal training and health coaching, adding to my certification as a health educator from some years previous. I've been blogging and running a massive (10 thousand plus member) free Facebook coaching group, as well as a habit-based group coaching program with a coaching partner. I've decided the time is right to branch out (or in, as the case may be) to private coaching.
My specialties are Body Positive Fitness, Body Image, working with disordered eating habits (although I'm not qualified to treat actual eating more...
My goal in my coaching is to FUEL YOUR AWESOME. Part of that involves breaking through all the culturally imposed ideals that we are 'supposed' to aspire to, and really examining our true selves and the things that bring us joy in this life. I know some of this sounds cliche. My coaching is anything BUT cliche, though. I pioneered Body Positive fitness and habit-based coaching, and have been doing both longer than just about anyone in the industry.
YOUR awesome is what brings you JOY. We'll work on finding it. And then we'll create a plan to get there for where you are. And most importantly, you'll have the skills, self-awareness and perspective to be flexible, resilient and AWESOME.
I guess if I had to pick a style, I'd say my coaching is client-led. Because I've found that most people really do know what they need to do, they just need someone to help them organize their thoughts about it, and sometimes they need someone to say 'hey - your thoughts and feelings here are valid, and the ideas you have are workable!'.
I prefer to address the day to day habits that make up the bulk of a person's time, rather than try to fixate on their body or an arbitrary set of numbers, because at the end of the day, those habits are what SHAPE that body and number set. I was one of the first people in the fitness industry using habit-based methods, and now everyone is doing it, so I think I must have been on to something. I'm also committed to body positive practices, so there's never any shame, guilt, punishment or restriction involved in my coaching. The actual scientific evidence supports body-positivity, too!
My favorite way to coach is via text or chat. I communicate best more ...

I was a Riot Grrl, and sang in a punk band in the 90's. I also was a cofounder of a nationally recognized pit bull rescue and educations organization. I developed the dog training curriculum that is still in use by the organization. Although I am no longer involved in the organization in a leadership position (I left when I had my kids), I helped form it's policies and establish it's credibility. It now routinely consults with Animal Welfare organizations across the country and even the world on how to most responsibly place the breed and support it's owners.
Plus, I'm a mom of teenagers.
Fees: from $10 to $399
