About me

Sarah Jean Anderson is an award-winning barista, prolific home cook, and graduate of IIN's Health Coach Training Program. She has spun her passion for teaching baristas how to make coffee into one of teaching folks in the service industry how to live healthier lives. Burnout is very common in the service industry, and other shift work professions. Sarah teaches small changes that can prevent the effects of burnout, making a positive impact on energy levels, mood, and productivity.


 


Sarah has helped her clients increase consumption of fruits and vegetables, decrease consumption of processed foods and sugar, bring blood sugar numbers into a normal range, lose weight, create a consistent meditation practice, prepare more meals from home, learn strategies to pack healthy lunches for work, sleep all night long, exercise for joy, set healthy boundaries to achieve goals, prioritize health over immediate desires, combat the negative voice inside, and be gentle with themselves when they slip up so they are motivated to keep going.

HOW I LIKE TO COACH

I like to coach by becoming the expert on my client. And I become the expert by asking lots of questions, examining motivations, and guiding my client to what they truly want to do. Through many 1:1 conversations, we work together to set goals each session to baby step toward larger six month goals.

Sarah works with clients virtually 1:1. Her program is six months long, with 50 minute sessions every two weeks. One month, three month, and six month goals are set and we work together to baby step toward them, setting mini-goals at the end of each session.

PROFESSIONAL AND LIFE EXPERIENCE

Even though I had a "cool" job teaching baristas how to make coffee and traveling the world competing as a champion barista, I was just like you: stressed at work, sleeping 5-6 hours a night, working 50-60 hours a week. I wanted more from life: more time with my fiance, the flexibility to travel, to be happy, less stressed, less anxiety and worry over every little thing. I couldn’t leave work at work, I was always “on.” I couldn’t take two weeks off for vacation without an immense amount of planning. So I decided to take charge of my life. I would work to live, not live to work. I changed positions at my company. I also got married to that fiance. And life was so good. I took a month off to travel. I went back to work and continued to travel, taking time off every month. Life was great. That was February 2020. And I think you know what happened next. Except, I took this as a sign that I was supposed to take an even bigger step away from work. Because in those few months since I changed positions, I traveled to three countries, two states, camped extensively, and enjoyed my life. My relationship with my husband was stronger because we talked about more than what we would eat for dinner or what movie to watch. I was exercising more, eating better. And I felt SO good. I had more energy, more zest for life. And I knew that I couldn’t go back to the life I had before. So I decided that instead of teaching people how to brew coffee and pour latte art that I would teach them how to pack a healthy lunch for work and how to create an exercise habit that sticks. And I haven’t looked back. Welcome to the rest of your life!
