Leveraging 15 years experience to provide solutions-focused coaching so you can lead your best life.
Hello! I’m Dr. Cristie Glasheen, founder of Step Strong Life Coaching. I am a Certified Life Coach and Mental Health Epidemiologist with over 15 years experience in behavior and behavior change. I leverage my training in psychology and public health to help my clients build confidence, manage stress, increase productivity, and escape negative self-talk to lead healthier, more purposeful, more authentic lives.
My coaching uses evidence-based techniques, including solutions-focused coaching and motivational interviewing to help you create habits that build confidence, improve communication, manage stress, overcome procrastination, handle criticism, set and maintain boundaries, and strengthen working and personal relationships, so you can succeed and thrive.
It's my belief that everyone has the ability to overcome past hurts, bad habits, negative self-talk, and other challenges. It's just that sometimes we need a little help seeing clearly and finding the solution. So if you are more...
I use a very structured but flexible approach to coaching. I provide a free pre-coaching session that allows potential clients to get to know me and allows me to learn more about what they are seeking. I start by clarifying the client's goals, their endpoints for success, personal motivation styles, temperament, and readiness for coaching. I believe that the relationship between the client and coach is paramount for successful coaching. If the potential client and I agree that we can work well together, then the end of the pre-coaching session is reserved for setting up a few goals in preparation of the first full coaching session.
Full coaching sessions start out by a review of previous goals, and an evaluation of successes and setbacks. The rest of the session includes celebrating successes, addressing setbacks, identifying lessons-learned, setting up new goals, and developing a plan for meeting these goals.
My coaching style is organized but dynamic and relies heavily on motivational interviewing techniques and solution focused coaching strategies. I tailor my approach and feedback to the needs, personality, and temperament of my clients.
Much of my skill as a life coach comes from my experience in public health, project management, and psychology. I use my training in public health and health behavior to evaluate my clients current status and readiness for behavior change. Then I apply a project management framework to help clients identify their goals and break them down into manageable, time bound steps. I use psychology to help encourage and motivate my clients, identify self-sabotaging behavior, and implement changes to successfully overcome challenges.

I provide telephone or Skype-based, one-on-one coaching in the evenings and weekends (Eastern Time Zone), and early morning weekday appointments (6am to 8am) reserved for clients with a time difference or challenging schedules.
I started Step Strong Life Coaching in 2014 when I realized that the support I was providing friends, family, and coworkers could be valuable to many people. As a mental health researcher, I find my work to be very rewarding but it lacks the one-on-one interaction and celebration of successes that comes with life coaching.
My undergraduate degree in psychology, with classes in learning and cognition, psychology of personality, and developmental psychology all help me to tailor my coaching approach to meet the personal needs of my clients. My Masters in Public Health helps me apply principles of behavior change, health, and wellness for my clients struggling to improve their health status or manage life changes resulting from illness or injury. My training and work as a mental health epidemiologist has allowed me to develop productivity, time management, organization, and coaching skills as I manage projects for large businesses and government clients.
On a personal note, I've had more ...

Dr. Cristie Glasheen has my highest recommendation as both a Life Coach and a person. She is brilliant, insightful, and professional and yet considerate, patient, and easy to work with. And she is certainly effective; as my life coach, she helped me accomplish in just two weeks personal objectives I had tried unsuccessfully for four months to do alone. I am genuinely happy to recommend Dr. Glasheen to anyone looking for help getting their life on track.
Cristie’s academic coaching was instrumental in helping me get over the final hurdles of finishing and defending my doctoral dissertation. Cristie is skilled at identifying and helping people like me work through the barriers, both internal and external, that might otherwise get in the way of achieving academic success. Her ability to understand and communicate others’ perspectives of a situation was invaluable to me as I prepared for my dissertation defense. I highly recommend her services to anyone who is looking for an academic coach.
