Academic coach | Productivity coach |
I work with graduate students, college students, and high school students to help you identify barriers to your academic progress and create plans to overcome them. My career includes more than two decades of experience as a success coach, academic advisor, classroom teacher, and academic program manager. While I was completing my Ed.D., I moved to a different country and changed jobs twice, and I still graduated in three years. I know about setbacks and the challenges of managing time, tasks, and priorities. The goal of my success coaching business, The Well-Ordered Mind, is to help students at the undergraduate and graduate levels pursue their academic goals with structure and purpose. Academic success coaching is tailored to your needs, so it looks different for each client. Coaching begins with a free, no obligation consultation and academic wellness inventory, which will give us the chance to talk about what's going on and how I can help.
Academic success coaching is highly individualized, so it looks different for each person. Some people start coaching with specific problems they want to address (finish a dissertation, organize their study time). If you are not sure exactly what help you need, that's fine, too. I can help you identify barriers to your academic progress or success and make plans to address them. Because I have decades of experience working with students, and experience as a graduate student myself, I am familiar with many of the common issues undergraduate and graduate students face. My goal is to help you integrate your academics into the rest of your life so you can experience structure, progress, and peace in your academic journey.
Common Issues I Can Help With:
My coaching is based on the needs of the students I work with. I find it works well to start a coaching relationship with an Academic Wellness Inventory and a reflection activity. These two tools allow clients to think through the challenges they are facing and consider their goals. Those factors then shape the rest of the coaching sessions.
While I will meet with someone for only one or two sessions, I strongly recommend at least four meetings. That will allow us to get to know one another, check in or progress, and see how the tools and systems we've put in place are working.
One-on-one coaching is available for students in high school through graduate school. Each 45-minute session is conducted virtually, via either phone call or video conference.

College Success Skills Boot Camp helps students set expectations, anticipate barriers, and make a plan for college success even before they set foot on campus. This course includes 3, 90-minute sessions that can be conducted online or in-person for groups of any size. The course topics and schedule can be modified to fit the needs of your group. Base cost is $150/student for an online workshop.
I have worked in higher ed in the United States and in Japan as a success coach, first-year experience coordinator, classroom teacher, and academic advisor. I've also taught at the K-12 level, and the most difficult thing I've ever done is teach kindergarten P.E.
One thing I strive for in my life is a sense of integration, in which the parts of my life fit together and are all directed toward the same goals. I think this is something we all crave, and my goal in coaching is to help students order their academic work in a way that makes sense with their whole life and person.
