The Nikes and Adidas’ of this world will try to persuade you, using insinuation as much as words, that achieving the ultimate pinnacle of any sport is a matter of wearing the right de-odorant, drinking the right energy drink and owning the right gear.
This is, of course, complete nonsense.
Many of the world’s greatest sportspeople performed great deeds in the days before lycra and lightweight fabrics. The sad materialism that has pervaded sport has unfortunately put off many hopeful athletes.
The most important way to improve your sports performance is not the shorts you wear, but the passion you hold for your sport. Maintain a love affair with your sport, and you will go far.
