Losing weight is rarely easy. The beginning of a new year starts us all off with a bang as we resolve to lose 5, 10, even 40 pounds or more. Excitement is in the air and we fully expect to reach our goals.

The challenge is to remain motivated until the actual goal is met. How do we do that? I'd like to encourage you, as well as myself, to not give up when we find ourselves stumbling due to the indulgence of a sweet tooth. The derailment doesn't mean that our entire program needs to be ruined.

Weight loss tip #1: Start with breakfast

Make a habit of eating breakfast. In fact, you should never skip breakfast. It is the most important meal of the day, and revs your metabolism to burn calories each and every day.

When you skip breakfast, you are more likely to overeat and then feel guilty later in the day.
