How do I use action items with my coaching clients?

 

It's easy to get your clients to follow through on their action steps. Either you or your client can create action items, based on your coaching conversations. These pinpoint the areas they have committed to acting upon for the following week, making it easy for you to act as accountability partner.

Creating Action items

  1. You can create action items in one of two ways.
    • During a session, you can assign or create a new action item, from the page where you take your session notes, the Appointments and Coaching notes page of Client and Coaching management (under Manage My Clients & Courses). Just above where you send a session summary of your session, select or create a new action item. This makes it quick and easy to keep your client on track.
    • You can also create or assign action items from the Action Items tab in your client file in Client and Coaching Management.
  2. Your client can also easily create their own action items in two ways:
    • During a session, they can easily create their action items right on their Appointments page, under where they take their Session notes.
    • They can also create or assign action items from the My Action items tab in their Coaching Pad.

How do I read and respond to action item progress reports?

  • Your client will update the status and add details of their progress toward their action items from their dashboard.
  • You can view these reports from the Action Items tab in your client file in Client and Coaching Management (under Manage Clients & Courses) OR from your super-convenient Progress Stream that lets you plan coaching sessions, send coaching notes, assign coaching tools, and read and comment on client progress, all from one page!
  • Click "View progress" to review the details your client has provided about their progress, any setbacks they have encountered, and so on. When they have completed their action item, they can mark it as Achieved, which will be noted in their progress report, and change the status of the action item.
  • You can also comment on any entry. Clients can comment back, and this way you can have a productive exchange regarding your clients' action plans, keeping them motivated and on track.
